Fertilsed from water hyacinth



TEGAL-Bedug Villagers, District Pangkah, Tegal regency, was unusual to see many large pools of residual minerals making bricks. Big puddle puddle-wide there are around 250 square meters with a depth of five meters, to meet the corner and now mangkrak village, full of murky water, and overgrown with water hyacinth.



Over the years, pools and water hyacinth are left without ever being touched. So he became a problem. Besides disturbing beauty, wallow in the form of large holes also endanger residents, especially children.

But, five female students of State University of Semarang (Unnes) sees the existence of pools of water hyacinth and it's not a problem. They actually tried to turn it into a blessing.
With perseverance, the five students namely Nur Laesiyah Fitriyanti, Imroatun Nurhidayah, Merli Retnowati, Cheryl Nur Raharti, and Risa Yuni Setyowati, changing the water hyacinth is a source of organic fertilizer.

Together with 17 residents recommended by the local farmers' groups, student majoring in PGSD Unnes fifth in the team Community Student Creativity Program (PKMM) is working hard to change the water hyacinth into organic fertilizer.

They are supported by the Directorate General of Higher Education, a grant proposal training hyacinth fertilizer to farmers that Bedug Village, and UPTD Agriculture, Plantation and Forestry (Tanbunhut) Pangkah District.

Organic fertilizers water hyacinth, ranging from the destruction process until drying, cooked or ready for use within a month. Fertilizer is then labeled a''fine water hyacinth compost.''
For residents Bedug, organic fertilizer pretty important because it can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. ''This kind of training is very useful for society, because it provides a direct benefit,''said Kadesh Bedug, Dimyati, recently.
