Energy Course : Water Hyacinth Bio Gas

Community needs for fuel oil (BBM) or type Gas (LPG) can basically be replaced by alternative energy such as biogas produced from the biodigester of raw materials Water Hyacinth, the energy potential of biogas is highly related to the amount of population Water Hyacinth itself as well as the patterns of utilization.
Hyacinth or water hyacinth (Latin: Eichornia crassipes) is one plant species airmengapung. Besides known as water hyacinth, in several regions in Indonesia, water hyacinth has another name, such as in the area of ??Palembang known Kelipuk, in Lampungdikenal with Ringgak name, in Dayak known Ilung-Ilung, in Manado known Tumpe. Water hyacinth was first discovered accidentally by a scientist named Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius, a German botanist in 1824 while on an expedition in the River AmazonBrasil. Water hyacinth has a high growth rate that is considered a weed plant that can damage the aquatic environment. Hyacinth easily spread through water channels to other water bodies.
This has led researchers to add value to of the water hyacinth. One is as a fuel substitute gas cylinder LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) and kerosene or other fuel at a price that is more easily accessible by the society with low economic value though. Because if the community is expected to continuously use the fuel of kerosene or LPG gas cylinders stretcher, probably sometime in the future will result in a fuel crisis.

This has become attractive for further investigation, namely how to improve the use value of water hyacinth to be better again. Then, after conducting various experiments finally found a solution that is effective enough to replace the fuel used by the people that utilize water hyacinth plants to be processed in advance so that it can become fuel. Ideas and solutions is given the title "water hyacinth into BIOGAS USE AS A FUEL SUBSTITUTE COMMON".

 Tools and materials:
* Gallons of mineral water or can be replaced with bottles of bottled water in 1200 ml.
* Knife.
* 2 pieces of small metal pipe with a diameter of 1 cm length of 10 cm and 20 cm (two pieces) ..
* 1 cm diameter plastic hose with a length of 1 m.
* Water
* Water hyacinth
Biogas Production Method:
1. Insert the water hyacinth into a gallon or bottles of mineral water to ½ gallon or bottles.
2. Fill a gallon or bottles with water.
Then close the meeting (lest there is a hole in the slightest).
4. Let stand for 7 days.
5. Prepare a 1 cm diameter metal pipe with a length of 10 cm and 20 cm (two pieces).
6. Where has reached 7 days, holes in the lid gallon or a little bottle of the same size with the metal pipe (do not open the lid, so that the gas therein is not exhausted yawn).
7. Then stick metal pipe measuring 10 cm on the lid.
8. Then connect the plastic hose into a metal pipe on the lid gallon or bottles.
9. At the end of the hose that is not yet in joining metal pipes, connect the metal pipes measuring 20 cm.
10. Then sulutlah with lighters. If the decay is good, it will light up.
Note:
If the water hyacinth material using a scale that is more, the gas produced will be more. For example, when using water hyacinth material with lots of 200 kg, the gas released will last for 2 weeks, with the use 1,5jam / day.

3.4. Implementation of Experiment
This experiment is the most fundamental experiments to create an Energy Biogas from Water Hyacinth and to add value to of the water hyacinth.
